New Simulations


We are pleased to announce a new series of works produced in collaboration with various individuals and overseen by our biotechnical simulacra department. Above is a series of experimental bioengineered pipes interacting with an historical replica. This forms a small aspect of a series of experiments regarding the relationship between reason and uncertainty undertaken by collaborators Hayden Prujean and Carlos Wedde, further information can be found at http://www.blueoyster.org.nz/

Our graphical department have also been active in dispensing new historical fiction thru the now widely respected and distributed medium of zines, these brief vignettes have now been launched on their maiden voyage through the publication known as Permanent Vacation. Ably compiled and dispensed
by the charming and engaging graphic punk known as Kerry Anne Lee-who deserves our heartfelt gratitude for her assiduous efforts in widening the scope of possibility available to consumers of popular culture.

Deep sea dis-comedusae


We here present the starting point of an until recently unadapted abstract from the Oafy Oceanographic team.

Abstract

Statistical phylogenetic analysis of 111 5.85 and partial – 28s ribosomal DNA sequences  ( total aligned length = 434 nucleotides) including jellyfishes representing approximately 14% of known scyphozoan romedusae constitute a fifth cnidarian class (Staurozoa) basal to a monophyletic Medusozoa (= Cubozoa, Hydrozoa, and Scyphozoa). Phylogenetic relationships among the medusozoans are generally poorly resolved, but support is found for reciprocal monophyly of the Cubozoa, Hydrozoa, Corontatae and Dis-comedusae (= Semaeostomeae  + Rhizostomeae). In addition, a survey of pairwise sequence differences in Internal Transcribed  Spacer One within morphospecies indicates that  scyphozoan species diversity may be approximately twice  recent estimates based on morphological analysis. These results highlight difficulties with traditional morphological treatments including terminology that obfuscates homologies. By integrating  molecular phylogenetic analysis with  old and new  morphological, behavioural, developmental, physiological, and other data, a much richer understanding of the biodiversity and evolution of jellyfishes is achievable.

We hope to expand on the possibilities contained within this facenating commencement in the not to distant future.
